The Agricultural University of Tirana (AUT) takes an important step towards innovation as well as the transfer of technology and knowledge in agriculture in the sector of medicinal and aromatic plants in Albania.

For the first time in Albania, AUT is compiling a “National Compedium for Medicinal and Aromatic Plants in cooperation with the National Veterinary and Plant Protection Authority, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, representatives of the private sector and other actors of the value chain.

The guide will serve the private sector with practical knowledge on BMA production, costs, standards, technology, processing and markets. The initiative is supported by RisiAlbania.

This initiative was inspired by a study visit to Switzerland, to the Center of Excellence of Swiss Agriculture (Agroscope) in October 2023, of representatives of the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment at UBT, colleagues of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and representatives from the private sector.
