Agribusiness

The agribusiness sector contributes around 20% to Albania’s GDP and provides employment to 40% of the population. It offers high employment potential for youth and socially disadvantaged groups in rural areas.

However, despite continuous investments, total production does not meet domestic demand and agricultural products only make up 5.4% of total exports: the sector has room to improve to reach its potential as it aims to access better markets.

This is why RisiAlbania interventions focus on assisting agribusinesses to perform better and to increase competitiveness in national and international markets which in turn generate employment opportunities for young people. We are focused on actors along the value chain, especially in subsectors like medicinal and aromatic plants or fruits and vegetables targeting product quality standards, market-oriented performance and cooperation among various market players.

Tourism

Tourism is a growing sector in Albania that has seen a steady raise in its contribution to the GDP over recent years, reaching 8.4% contribution to total GDP in 2016 and forecast to grow 6.2% per year until 2027.  Furthermore, the World Travel & Tourism Council estimates that this sector will employ 6% of the total workforce in Albania by 2025.

RISI interventions in the tourism sector seek to reduce the seasonality of the sector. For this, our interventions focus on promoting the creation of new tourism products, twinning rural businesses with international ones for experience exchange and sustainable development, strengthening capacities for the coordination of tourism players, and fostering the creation and provision of tourism information.

Through promotion of innovative alternative tourism offers in national, regional and international markets we increase the opportunities for local businesses to grow and to create new jobs.

ICT

The ICT sector is fast-growing, providing youth with well-paid, flexible and attractive job opportunities. Risi Albania interventions in the sector focus on two main components: IT and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO).

However, the sector still presents opportunities for growth as there is limited international awareness of Albanian comparative advantages; a non-conducive regulatory framework limits the sector’s expansion opportunities; and companies lack incentives to invest in employee development. These limit the attractiveness of the sector for young Albanian graduates.

In partnership with private and public-sector actors, RisiAlbania interventions focus on achieving a more conducive regulatory environment, and on conducting investment promotion activities in foreign and domestic markets.
