Representatives of local government, tour operators, businesses operating in the tourism sector, and academia from Gjirokastra gathered on May 7th 2018 to discuss and agree on the creation and management of the Official Tourism Portal for the region of Gjirokastra. Participants were introduced to some of the best practices and examples from Albania and abroad. They also followed detailed presentations from experts invited by Risi on management modalities of these portals, and of their importance as tools for tourism promotion.

“This portal is the right tool that will bring us together and work for our common goal to promote Gjirokastra as a tourism destination” – said Sadi Petrela, from Gjirokastra Foundation.

The Mayor of Gjirokastra, Ms. Zamira Rami honored the meeting with her presence and made some brief remarks emphasizing the fact that the municipality will fully support this initiative, which is going to be run by local stakeholders and backed by Risi Albania.

Through discussions and practical exercises during the workshop, participants identified the strengths and weaknesses of the region, and strongly supported the creation of the official portal initiative. They agreed to create and participate in the management of a body which will be responsible for the Tourism Portal of Gjirokastra region, the first step towards the creation of a Website that will be main gateway for tourist information.
