Albania takes a step closer towards fortifying its information security infrastructure with raising awareness and promoting ISO 27701 certification, among all relevant stakeholders.  Hosted by the General Directorate of Accreditation, supported by RisiAlbania a project of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and implemented by Helvetas Albania, today’s gathering signifies a landmark move in the realm of information security in Albania. The initiation of novel schemes, including ISO/IEC 27701, ISO 27017, and ISO 27018, underscores the steadfast commitment of Albania to global standards and certifications. ISO 27701 is a data privacy standard that builds on ISO 27001, the most widely used international standard for information security management. The standard guides organizations on policies and procedures to comply with GDPR and other privacy laws.

Moderated by Aurora Sulçe, the event was greeted by Mr. Philipp Arnold, Deputy Head of Mission of the Swiss Embassy in Albania. Mr. Arnold emphasized the role of Swiss projects like RisiAlbania in supporting the development of Albania’s economy. On the same page, Mr. Endrit Yzeiraj, Deputy Minister of Economy, Culture and Innovation commended the work of General Directorate of Accreditation, as well as highlighted the relevance of ISO certifications in light of the EU negotiation process as well. Mrs. Pranvera Fagu, Director of GDA showcased the work of the Agency in managing such processes whereas Mr. Stephan Joss, RisiAlbania project director explained how embracing such standards creates more employment opportunities for Albanian Youth. Certification and standards, besides being a requirement of the EU, create opportunities for growth, outsourcing services, exports – processes that will create job placements for Albanian youth.

The second part of the panel discussion featured expert discussions, representing relevant stakeholders in the Albanian market. Panelists including Blerina Qazimi, Besa Stringa, Sokol Avxhiu, Igli Tafa, Alfons Muça, Nikolin Metaj, and Raffaelle Regni, provided their insights one critical subjects like the need for accredited certifications for standards 27701, 27017, and 27018.

The discussion also pointed out values and benefits for Albanian companies in the domestic and international markets, as well as the interest of stakeholders from large markets, whether investors or entrepreneurs, regarding what Albania can offer and should guarantee in the field of information security. Finally the discussion steered towards the future and current trends in Europe.

This event came as a collaborative effort to foster a safer and more conducive environment for all stakeholders in the ecosystem. The aim is that this significant stride will usher in a period of successful certifications, fostering the growth of information security and competitiveness in our country-all this towards better and more jobs for young women and men in Albania.
